The Mayapura Project
The Mayapura project is the spiritual headquarters of the International Society for Krsna Consciousness - ISKCON because Mayapura is where Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu appeared and inaugurated His sankirtana mission of congregational chanting for worldwide distribution.
Since the time of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, Vaisnava acaryas have foretold Sri Mayapura Dhama's development into a spiritual city.
Looking across Jalangi River from his house in Godrumadvipa, Srila Bhaktivinode Thakura, saw brilliant effulgence spreading out in all directions from the holy land of Sri Mayapura. His vision was of a wonderful golden spiritual city where the whole world would one day become inundated in Krsna-prema. In Caitanya siksamrta, Thakura Bhaktivinode predicted that in the future, in the holy land of Sri Mayapura, people from foreign lands would join their Indian brothers in ecstatically dancing and singing "Jaya Sacinandana! Jaya Sacinandana!" He further wrote of a great personality who would soon appear to fulfill this prediction. Pure hearted vaisnavas understand this empowered personality to be His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the founder chary of the International Society for Krsna Consciousness.
In 1972 when Srila Prabhupada arrived at ISKCON's newly acquired property in he laid the foundation stone for the Mayapura Candrodaya Mandira.
Today Mayapura Candrodaya Mandira is visited by thousands of guests each day. The central attraction are deities of Sri Sri Panca Tatva on one altar, Sri Sri Radha Madhava surrounded by the eight principle gopis on the main altar and on another altar Sri Sri Prahlada Narasimha.
Surrounding the temple are parks and gardens, Srila Prabhupada's grand Puspa Samadhi, ashramas, guesthouses, prasadam halls, a goshala, book publishing offices, gurukula schools, academies and apartment buildings for grihastha residences.
Future plans include the construction of a magnificent, "Temple of the Vedic Planetarium". This mammoth temple will be surrounded by a wonderful spiritual city.
This will fulfillment of other predictions by the previous acharyas:
"When our Lord disappears, by His desire, the Ganges will swell. The Ganges water will almost cover Mayapura for a hundred years, and then the water will again recede. For some time only the place will remain, devoid of houses. Then again, by the Lord's desire, this place will become prominent, and people will live in Mayapura as before. All these ghatas on the bank of the Ganges will again be manifest, and the devotees will build temples of the Lord. Adbhuta mandira eka haibe prakasa, gauranga nitya-seva haibe vikasa, one exceedingly wonderful temple will appear from which Gauranga's eternal service will be preached everywhere." (Nityananda Prabhu to Jiva Goswami, Navadvipa Dhama Mahatmya)
